No Yeast Bread Recipe

Flour and milk no yeast bread recipe with baking powder leavening, baked in a loaf pan for a simple homemade bread.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 tsp white sugar
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 4 cups plain/all-purpose flour 500 g
  • 2 1/4 cups milk
  • 8 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp cooking/kosher salt

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven:

    Heat the oven to 430°F (220°C), or 390°F (200°C) if using a fan-assisted oven.
  • Prepare loaf pan:

    Butter a 9x5-inch (22x13 cm) loaf pan and line with parchment paper, allowing extra to hang over the sides for easy removal.
  • Mix dry ingredients:

    In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar until evenly distributed.
  • Create well, add wet:

    Create a depression in the center of the dry mix, then add the oil and milk.
  • Stir until combined:

    Stir until the flour is completely absorbed; the mixture will be thick yet stirrable.
  • Pour batter into pan:

    Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top with a spatula and scraping the bowl clean.
  • Bake 30 min, cover:

    Bake for 30 minutes, then take the loaf out and cover it with aluminum foil.
  • Reduce temp, bake more:

    Reduce the oven temperature to 390°F (200°C), or 360°F (180°C) for fan ovens, and bake for another 20 minutes.
  • Rest in pan:

    Remove the pan from the oven and let it rest in the pan for 5 minutes.
  • Lift out to rack:

    Using the parchment overhang, lift the bread out and transfer it to a wire rack.
  • Cool completely:

    Let the bread cool fully, at least 45 minutes, before slicing.
